Alternatives in assessment

  1. There are so many non-traditional ways to assesss students, however there are some of them which besides they are useful, creative, engaging; they tend to be time consuming, so, teachers for the sake of saving time or just the lack of it, do not try these alternative assessing tools and keep on doing measurable testing.

  2. It is interesting to learn about all this tools to assess students. To know that there are more ways to carry evaluation instead of only relying on traditional tests is a nice thing. I hope all of us can take this into account when we are professionals in order to make learning something interesting and exciting for our dear students.

Thanks Rocío for being my partner for this presentation, you are such a good co-presenter ;)

  3. I agree with you guys. Although everyone wants a test for everything, especially when it is cheap and easy to administer (sometimes); it is important to make conscious that test are not the only tools for assessing someone. There are these other alternatives that give us different results and offer different processes to go through.

  4. it is curious that before I started taking Assessment class, I used to do a lot of the activities described in your presentation as way to have my students engaged in class. However, I had no clue that is a way to assess them and sadly I did not really took those activities seriously for an assessment process. Now that I know that assessing is not only summative but also formative and that it could be alternative, I try to use it as a way not only to have them active in class but to see their progresses and difficulties more detailed. Aditionally, It great to assess this way, because students act naturally without the pressure or stress that an exam may cause.

  5. I remember I also presented this topic last semester and I loved it. Now, I must acknoledge that I give more importance to giving feedback in my classes. It's more demanding and time consuming but it is a vital part of teaching. Besides, these alternatives in assessment allow us to interact more with students. :)
